Many people think of computers as primarily working with numbers. This is not right, although almost all programs work with arithmetic , that is counting, comparing, and perhaps multiplying. Not much math beyond that unless working on a specifically mathematical program. Modern programming sometimes goes beyond arithmetic into math in particular symbolic mathematics. Symbolic math is the kind of math that is done largely with symbols that are not limited to numbers. For example:
( 2 + 3 ) / ( 5 * 7 )
y = x * sin( x ) solve for x
There are several ways of doing symbolic math, my favorite is Sagemath, google it.
